God's Word Increases Expectancy

During prayer a few weeks ago I was impressed in my spirit that God wanted to increase the level of expectancy in us. Once that was released in the atmosphere I immediately gave a couple Biblical examples of God intervening because of expectation.

An expectation is really someone that has the "hope, anticipation or belief that something will happen. This principle holds true for positive things or negative things. This is why you often hear some people say only bad things happen to me and they are right because what they say, backed by what they really believe in their hearts produce the results in their lives. Therefore you cannot separate what you are hoping for from what you are expecting to actually happen.

In Acts chapter 3, you have a man lame from his mother's womb placed at the Gate of the Temple called Beautiful everyday begging for alms or donations. He sees Peter and John and as he's done to thousands of people for years, he asks them for money as well. They called his attention and told him to "look at them which he did expecting to receive something¦ and instead of money he was healed. Acts 3

4 And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us. So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

His hope was that he would get some money, but his miracle came in his being made whole. He was now able to go work and make more than he ever dreamed of making. Each day he expected money to survive until one day he received what money could not buy.

In John chapter 5, you have the man that was at the Pool of Bethesda who lost his hope even to the point where he stopped trying to get healed when the angel appeared and troubled the waters. When hope is gone you no longer expect anything good to happen. This is the state of a person that has lost expectation.

However, Jesus appeared and asked him about his situation and after explaining that he was unable to walk and had no one to put him into the pool when it was time, Jesus asked if he wanted to be healed. Naturally his response was yes and the end result of that conversation was with Jesus telling him to "Rise, take up his bed and walk.  John 5

5 Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, "Do you want to be made well?
7 The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.
8 Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.

One of the things you see in this account is that God may have a different way to bless your life especially when we're trying to receive the promises of God the same way as other do.

The man put his only hope in an angel that appeared periodically and because others placed their hope in this means of getting their need met, he did as well. We need to search out the Word of God for ourselves and sometimes allow God to do what he wants to do for us in the way He wants to do it.

Also, because it hasn't happened yet it does not mean that God has forgotten. This man was in this state for 38 years and although he gave up trying¦ he remained in place and came face to face with The Healer and not one of Christ's representatives. Sometimes we also have to remain in place.

We need to do what we know we're supposed to be doing so when the time comes for us to receive from God we will in position. Sometimes this is for years!  God's trying to get our hearts and minds focused on Him so His character can be developed in us and so our faith can be increased. He wants His people stable and consistent in their lives.

Throughout our lives we often deal with three things¦ desires: what you want; delays: time we have to wait to see our desires, and the fulfillment of them, or when they become a reality.

This is not true for everyone because some people only live to get by and are not concerned about establishing God's greater will. They are content if their bills are paid and they have a job. There's nothing wrong with this but often we expend much of our prayers and energies asking and working for things that God said He was going to do for us anyway. Matthew 6

31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, ˜What shall we eat?' or ˜What shall we drink?' or ˜What shall we wear?'
32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

In essence, eating, drinking and having a good time is the state of their hearts. As Believer's, God wants our lives to reflect confidence in Him and His faithfulness. God wants us to recognize that He is real and that He cares for us more than we will ever realize. Once we can get to the place where we know that God will always take care of us, we will begin to move our focus to other things and other people.

The Lord has called us to live in a manner that always considers His greater will, plan and purpose. Doing this and living in this manner we consider the state of other people that are in need. This is also the place where we see the level of a person's spirituality and if their focus is on the things of God they will also consider whether those that are around them are even saved.

The greatest call on our lives is to introduce other people to the Lord Jesus Christ. And when this is our focus, you will see that God will cause you to find fulfillment right where you are. It's in this place of satisfaction that you will be content with the time it takes for Him to bring your life to the place He desires for you to be. This is the principle of "Seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you in action.

The reality is when one thing is added to something else; there is much less effort required in bringing what is added into the mix. You have to put all the components in place so what comes into your life can be done effortlessly.

You obey what God tells you to do and being in His will, you become content with what you have and where you are in life knowing that He always has your best interest at heart. Seeking God's Kingdom places your focus on what really matters to him. When you do what matters to him, He will do for you the things that matter to you.

Because an element of time is required between the moment we believed and the fulfillment of what God promised, it's here in the process that many Believers' give up. Most people do not know what to do while waiting for God to fulfill what He said. Unless your mind is centered on the things of God, you will eventually see that your faith will wane and your level of expectancy will also fade. Because of this, the seed of the Word of God that is in their heart has no depth and many of them fall off because of the inevitable tests and trials that will be presented to them while they wait.

Saying there's no depth, I'm making reference to the fact that there are many Christians that have reduced their walk with God to only going to church out of duty or obligation. Some only attend when it's convenient. When we live like this it's very hard for our lives to be influenced by the very Word that we confess and say we believe in.

The Bible tells us that we are not ignorant of satans deceitful scheming and what happens is because we often lack real depth in our lives and walk, we don't recognize when we are being led off track.

Second Corinthians 2:11
11 ¦lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

This is the state of many Christians as they operate without knowing that the devil is really good at what he does and even makes some things seem like it is coming from God or appear as if there's no harm in what you're thinking or doing.

The Word of God is the only thing that will expose satan as he tries to make the darkness he is appear as the light that he was when he was the anointed cherub around God's throne.

Second Corinthians 11:
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

Therefore it's the seed of the Word of God living and operating on a daily basis in the heart of the Christian that allows them to see the devil for who he is. They will recognize it when satan alters how he operates and tries to become someone that passes himself off as what is good.

Mark 4 New Living Translation. This Scripture shows us how subtle satan is¦ even to the point where some people think and say He's not real.

13 Then Jesus said to them, "If you can't understand the meaning of this parable, how will you understand all the other parables?
14 The farmer plants seed by taking God's Word to others.
15 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan come at once and take it away.
16 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy.
17 But since they don't have deep roots, they don't last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God's word. 18 The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God's word,
19 but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced. 20 And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God's word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!

What we have here are the various ways that satan keeps the people of God from becoming all they are supposed to be. If you'll notice he does not use anything that is out of the ordinary. It's not like it's violence or murder, séances or things we often associate with being "demonic. He uses natural life issues to cloud the focus and perception of the people of God.

This includes money, relationships, family issues, our jobs or business goals; what other people say about our walk with God not because we go to church¦ but as verse 17 ends because "we believe God's Word; and then because we just have problems in general.

God's Word will settle us on the fact that no matter what we go through, God will make a way of escape and be there through the fire and the flood. But even some that appear to be strong when they are not faced with adverse circumstances allow their true colors to show when they face a problem.

As the people of God we have to be able to stay focused and keep functioning at our highest level when these things try to kill the seed of the Word of God.

The fact is that although our salvation is free, God has an expectancy for us that will further His objectives in the earth. Because God has an expectancy we must find out what He wants and allow what He desires to become our focus in life. This is where the Scripture comes to life that says, "Delight yourself also in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

When you truly have delight in Christ, He drops His desires into your heart and then your desires actually become His and your life finds its greatest fulfillment. This is where we must give God's Word the rightful place in our lives and not only in what we quote. Our hearts must be what we allow to forge our actions, however our hearts must be tender towards the things of God and God Himself.

Jesus said in Matthew 15,
8 ˜These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips,
but their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'

Isaiah 55
8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord.
9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 "For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

This is the purpose for our standing on what God said as it's all about Him accomplishing through us what He determines and not so much what people say we are supposed to do.

Most people, especially if they are not matured followers of Christ are not going to even have the slightest inkling about God's thoughts or his purposes. Because of this they are not in any position to give counsel based on God's Word and His desires.
