The Power is for Purpose
As I share on the Power of God the Truth that is being conveyed is that you must be an "active participant in experiencing God and His power from start to finish.
As God manifests His power in your life through salvation and gives you the hope of eternal life, that is not the "end all be all of our walk. God has a work to do in us that will only be accomplished if we join with Him and let Him. Therefore to live in a victorious manner we have to walk in the power of God every day.
It remains true that God will very seldom go against the will of His people and have often given them things that He knew would be detrimental to their growth, health and even their lives so they can see that His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts.
Therefore as God brought us into salvation by His power and gave us an intended end result of eternal life, He wants you to know that the component that allows you to always be victorious is faith.
Faith gives the Gospel its power and the person that activates what the Bible contains by the faith that God gave them is the one who will have hope in hopeless situations, and submit to the process that God may allow them to be in¦ even when they don't understand why they're in it.
I previously said, "When the Word of God meets your faith, it activates God's power and that "The ability of God is only restricted by the limitations we place on Him.
These place a responsibility on us that if neglected we will not live our lives with the greatest sense of joy and hope that we can. Hebrews 4:2
For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
The reality is that we can know the Word of God and never get to the place where we live a confident Christian life because we really don't believe what God said.
We may believe that it is the Word given us from God; we may believe that it can do the things it projects; but we may not be convinced that it is for us today and that it will accomplish the purpose for which God sent it¦ today.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Being alive, The Word of God is energized with power and has the ability to produce the results it contains if we are willing to exercise both, faith and patience as we "inherit the promises of God through faith and patience.
With this said, we must know that the faith we have is not meant to only get something from God or have Him fix a problem we may be facing, although these are things that He can and will do for us.
Our faith is given so we can accomplish the purpose for which we have been born no matter how great or modest that purpose may appear to be.
The proof of God's power in the life of a Believer is the faith that resides in their heart that they put into action. Faith is not passive, but active if it is really faith at all.
Time and again, as we read the Scriptures we will see that when great faith is revealed, a specific purpose is attached to it.
Whether it is God stopping the sun so Joshua could finish his work, or giving David the courage to face and defeat a giant, it was faith resident in the heart of these men that allowed them to accomplish the task in front of them.
As I said, faith is the power of God by demonstration and not through logic or reason. Some things God does that do not make sense but, when thought about it does not go contrary to reason and therefore will make sense if it truly was God.
Both of these examples [and there are hundreds more in the Scriptures] show us that the actions of Joshua and David did not make sense. At dusk, people would prepare for bed as they had no flood lights to work in the dark. But they kept working¦ faith in action.
For David, the entire army of Israel was in trenches and no one gave him a chance to win¦ But David knew that the God of Israel would give him the victory.
Faith is a demonstration of courage not an argument. The power of faith is in what it does¦ with its ultimate goal being the ability to bring you to the "end result of your faith¦ which is eternal life.
The Book of James chapter 2 reveals the part we play in activating our faith very clearly stating:
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?
17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe”and tremble!
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?
23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. And he was called the friend of God.
24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
When "works is referenced here it implies what the word actually means which is to "do a deed or an act; to perform an action; something that is done.
This is what God is trying to get across as faith does not sit and wait talking about something.
14 Dear friends, do you think you'll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it?
18 I can already hear one of you agreeing by saying, "Sounds good. You take care of the faith department, I'll handle the works department.
Not so fast. You can no more show me your works apart from your faith than I can show you my faith apart from my works. Faith and works, works and faith, fit together hand in glove.
Now, this allows us to see that if we really believe that God is going to do something significant through us, we are going to have to do something, but the question is often, "What am I supposed to do?
This is a legitimate question, especially when we look at our lives from the perspective of purpose, however the answer will always be the same as our responsibility is to "Do what we know we are supposed to be doing and do them consistently until what we are doing takes the form of purpose.
Very few people have entered this earth, knowing exactly what their purpose is. If the truth would be known, "purpose is discovered through our obedience to the principles that are outlined in the Scriptures.
The reason understanding your purpose often takes time is because there are often character issues that God needs to deal with so we can have the strength, stamina, wisdom and ability to accomplish the things that we are called to do.
In order for you to accomplish the purpose for which you were born¦ or to possibly even come out of your current situation unscathed, "God wants us to take control of our flesh while He takes over our lives.
In our generation many of us have given the direction of our lives over to God without accepting responsibility for the things we are supposed to be controlling.
Our prayer is often "God will you do¦ God will you bring me through¦ God, will you help me to overcome something that He told us to overcome ourselves?
If we ask for His help, we must know the difference between the areas of life that He has already empowered us with and areas that are outside this area that we actually need His help in. We have to know the difference.
However, I believe that there are a group of Believers who have embraced the heart of God and are sincere in their quest to accomplish what God intends for them to do before they leave the earth.
They understand that doing something good is not always necessarily doing God's will. But doing God's will is always going to lead to something good.
These are the people that understand that accomplishing any real significant purpose is first of all birthed in the Spirit and by the Spirit, not something that is conjured up in their carnal minds.
They know that unless the Lord builds their house, they are laboring in vain and will eventually become frustrated in their quest to fully please God.
Therefore the power of God is revealed in understanding the purposes of God. It's here that you become settled with how God made you and you are content with the calling that God placed on you.
You no longer strive or struggle with other people about their opinion of you, or compare how they are doing better than you may be doing with your current situation. You understand that "Where you are in life is not your destination unless you choose to camp out there.
You are also not insecure about your life and neither are you over-confident about how your future is going to look, you just know it's going to look as God intends.
John said a man can only have what God gives him and we must become the men and women that God wants us to be without consistently comparing ourselves with ourselves of whom Paul said is unwise.
John 3:27 NKJV
John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.
John answered, "It's not possible for a person to succeed”I'm talking about eternal success”without heaven's help. The Message Bible
When we are settled on the purposes of God for our lives, we no longer compare and argue that our way is better. We are content with the call that God placed on us as we continue moving our lives toward the reason for our existence.
Feeding our faith with the Word of God, we become more conscious of the tactics of the enemy in trying to destroy our lives using us or other Believer's in the Body of Christ to accomplish his deceitful plan.
The fact is, "You will never fully experience God's power as He intends unless you live your life the way He intends. Ignorance of how God wants you to live have kept many of God's people living below His intended purpose.
If God has an expectation for us there are two other things that will happen¦ first We will have to do what He says we can do; and secondly, He will bring into our lives the corresponding promises or the things that He said you're supposed to experience because you chose to do what He said.
This is vital for the people of God if we are ever going to walk in the power of God on daily basis. The realization of God's promises are not going to be by might or power but by His Spirit and therefore it will be by an act of our obedience that we learn to rest in God and therefore have His power in operation each day.
The greatest hindrance we have to not living God's intended way is "not having enough money, education or good luck so we can live in a manner that is free from the distresses of life; it's not allowing the Word of God to make us who He wants us to be.
We are to be "loving; allow God's peace to rule us; be thankful; live the Word each day; and doing what our right hand finds to do.
14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
The thing that keeps this from being a reality in many of our lives is that we don't realize the power and authority we have over our lives and our bodies.
I think it's ironic that we are often able to tell other the right way to live and right decisions to make while we are still not measuring up to God's standard ourselves.
The reason for this is when you live by the Law of the Lord [the Commandments alone], you know what's right, but are not empowered to live the life of an overcomer through it.
This is because the Law was given so we can know what God's intention for us is and as simple as they are, they awaken the bad in us and it takes the power of the Spirit to overcome those ungodly thoughts, desires and actions.
However, when we come into the revelation of grace, we find that it's here that God has empowered us to first of all take authority over our flesh and embark upon on a journey that will be filled with victory after victory.
The person that walks in joy and peace most of the time is the one that remains in a conscious obedient relationship with Christ.
He or she knows that their righteousness is not based on their own merits, but on Christ's victory and through that position they allow Him to rule and reign on a daily basis.
However, the person that consistently wrestles with a heart of disobedience to God is the person that either has not fully given their life over to Him or is trying to live according to the "do's and don'ts of the Word, again the Law or Commandments.
They have not availed themselves to the Scriptures that reveal their authority over their own flesh whereas they are allowing the Word of Christ to transform their thinking into being a person who lives for Christ and dies for Christ.
They have not become the person that Colossians 3 says, "Wants to know Christ and the power of His resurrection, and embrace the attacks against the Word of God they are living to be their "sharing in His suffering becoming like unto Him in His death.
They have consistently moved their lives to the place where they progressively are set free by the authority and power of God.
They understand that being free is not the same as being perfect or being sinless.
They view being free and being a person that has come to understand the grace of God operating in their lives and have resolved to move their life forward while God continues to work on the areas they need to improve in.
Doing this, they also recognize that change is often the result of a determined heart and will not just happen because they say, "God change us.
Yes that's a desire and will produce a greater desire to change but they realize that the ultimate change is going to come when they make up their own mind that they are not going to give satan a foothold in their life any longer by allowing known acts of sin to remain as lord in their lives. This is brought out clearly in Romans 6 NKJV
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
12 That means you must not give sin a vote in the way you conduct your lives. Don't give it the time of day.
13 Don't even run little errands that are connected with that old way of life. Throw yourselves wholeheartedly and full-time”remember, you've been raised from the dead!”into God's way of doing things.
14 Sin can't tell you how to live. After all, you're not living under that old tyranny any longer. You're living in the freedom of God.
New Living Translation
12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. 13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God's grace.
These are things that will keep you from walking in purpose and in power as they chip away at your faith and you are not able to stand when adversity comes or when you do fall not knowing what to do.
These things stand in direct opposition to your fulfilling purpose and living your life to the best or your ability while allowing God to be glorified in and through you.
